A cosy fishing adventure. One summer on Gull Island, then nine little islands, 108 fish, a cat called Biscuit and a whole lot of lighthouses to light again.

▸ A summer by the sea

Wren is spending the summer with Nana June on Gull Island, where the lighthouse has been dark since Grandpa Ellis's last season. The old stories say Old Moonfin's scales hold the moon's light. So: a rod, a bucket, a cat called Biscuit, and a whole island of water to fish.

Then come back five summers later. Every island once kept a tidelight that sang to the Moonfins, and one by one they went dark. Sail from Port Merrow's harbour to Ember Rock's hot springs and the ice of Whalebone Skerry, help each keeper with a problem (usually a fishy one), and light them up again.

And who keeps leaving lanterns burning just ahead of you?

▸ Fish everything

Ponds and brooks, rock pools and reefs, hot springs, holes in the ice and the open sea. Every fish keeps its own hours, and some only bite when the tide, the weather or the moon is right. Cast, wait for the nibble, strike, and reel in without snapping the line. Then fill in the journal, from the Sunny Bluegill (who looks like it got into the paints) to the Lantern Angler.
